When the Minnesota State schedule came out last spring and you looked at the final series of the 2024 calendar year, did you imagine that it would be a battle between the top two teams in the CCHA?
Neither did I.
No knock on Lake Superior State, but the Lakers did finish seventh in the league last season and eighth in 2023. This year? While picked to place sixth in the standings by the league’s coaches and media during the preseason, they’re currently sitting in second place at 6-2-0 (8-7-1 overall), just a few percentage points behind the first-place Mavericks (12-4-2, 7-1-2), and they were sitting atop the standings just a week ago. Minnesota State, ranked 12th in the Pairwise and the USCHO poll, enters the home weekend on a nine-game unbeaten streak and a four-game win streak. The Lakers have won four of five and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
