Minnesota State captured the Mason Cup on Friday night, defeating St. Thomas 4-2 before a capacity crowd at Mankato’s Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. After winning the MacNaughton Cup as regular-season champs, the Mavericks pulled off a double conference title for the fifth time but the first time under Strand, the second-year head coach. What a season!
The Mavericks are off to the NCAA tournament now, a fate that was already known before the championship game was played. They will play Western Michigan, which pulled off the NCHC double title, on Thursday afternoon in Fargo, N.D.
