It’s Friday morning in Manila, and I’ll be on a plane in a few hours, ready to make the long trek back to Mankato, which has to be close to the next world city, alphabetically, after the Philippines capital, no? By the time I land in Minneapolis, the Mavericks and Tommies will be on the ice for pregame warmups for the Mason Cup championship at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. Perhaps I’ll be home in time for the second period. If so, maybe see some of you there!

Masons lay brick and build walls, so if Minnesota State can claim the CCHA playoff title trophy, it might be appropriate that its own brick wall, Alex Tracy lead the way.
This week during the lead-up to the championship, Tracy, the CCHA Player of the Year and likely All-American, was named a finalist for two prestigious men’s college hockey awards, the Mike Richter Award as the sport’s top goaltender (one of four finalists) and the Hobey Baker Award as the sport’s best player overall (one of 10, but the only goalie on the list).
